Mexico and Spain signed a cooperation agreement Friday on the use of water resources and the control of water pollution in their semiarid areas and the control of water pollution.
The uneven distribution and shortage of water resources checkedthe economic development and affected people’s life in both countries, Spanish Environment Minister Cristina Narbona said at the signing ceremony.
Spain will provide Mexico with technologies in water conservancy and irrigation projects, purification of sea water and treatment of waste water, she said.
As a member of the European Union (EU), Spain will promote cooperation between the EU and Mexico in the exploitation of water resources, the Spanish minister said.
Under the agreement, the two countries also pledge to make joint efforts in environmental protection, such as reduction of the greenhouse gas emission in the framework of the Kyoto Protocol,which came into effect in February.
The protocol stipulates commitments of each of the 159 signatories to curb the emission of carbon dioxide and five other gases that are blamed for the global warming in the first period from 2008 to 2012. Enditem

Mexico, Chile to sign strategic association accord
Chile and Mexico will sign a strategic association accord in January in an effort to bring the two countries closer politically, culturally and technically, presidents of the two countries said at a joint press conference on Friday.
The visiting Chilean President Ricardo Lagos and his Mexican counterpart, Vicente Fox, said in the eastern city of Veracruz that the agreement would be formally signed during Fox's visit to Chile next month.

India, Mexico sign five accords
India and Mexico today signed five agreements for enhancing cooperation in education, science and technology and other areas, providing major impetus to bilateral ties.
The accords are on cooperation between diplomatic academies, cultural and educational exchange programmes for 2005-07, programme for cooperation in science and technology and for exemption of visa requirements for official and diplomatic passport holders.

More airlines now can fly between U.S. cities and 14 Mexican destinations
The United States and Mexico have signed a new aviation accord that increases the number of airlines that can fly between U.S. cities and 14 destinations in Mexico.
The U.S. Department of Transportation said in a December 12 statement that the agreement, signed that day in Mexico City, increases from two to three the number of airlines that passengers in each country can select from when flying between the United States and the 14 Mexican cities, which include all of Mexico's major tourist destinations.

President Hu arrives in Mexico for state visit
Chinese President Hu Jintao arrived Sunday in Mexico City on a state visit to further expand cooperation between China and Mexico.
During his visit, President Hu will exchange views with his Mexican counterpart, Vicente Fox, and other Mexican leaders on bilateral relations and international and regional issues.
The two countries are also expected to sign a number of cooperation documents during Hu's visit.

The India-Mexico Joint Commission, which met on Friday after nine years, produced five agreements in foreign service training, culture, scientific cooperation, education and diplomatic and official visa exemptions.
Talking to this correspondent after the meeting here, Mexican Deputy Foreign Minister Lourdes Aranda Bezaury, who headed an 18-member delegation, said she also had an exchange of views with Minister of State for External Affairs Rao Inderjit Singh.

South Korea Speeds Up FTA With Mexico
South Korean President Roh Moo-hyun’s visit here will likely be a great challenge for the two countries, which are haggling over a free trade agreement (FTA) across the Pacific Ocean.
