This area has been paramount in the development of the city of Guadalajara because it has been one of the most important sources of water. Presently, it still provide water to several neighborhoods in the area. Currently it is a 230 acre park and is divided into two sections.
One section has its entrance in the street “Chaco,” where the main use is for picnicking and families. The people that visit this park in everyday basis use the paved trail for walking or running, going through a beautiful forest. The Japanese Garden is a replica of a ceremonial garden in Japan with a long tradition. This garden is an inviting place for contemplation and enjoyment of the sound of water. The center piece in this section is an artificial lake where we can observe a wide variety of birds and amphibians. There we also can find a place called “Las Pergolas” which is a multiple uses outdoor auditorium. Here, they present a permanent program called “Getting to Know Mexico". Every month they present one state of the country and they feature the folklore, the food, music, and exhibit and sell crafts. The castle is an art and culture center where they teach.
The second section has its entrance on Patria avenue where there are camping areas, and this is also the main destination for athletics. Here, you can rent horses and take a ride. Also you can visit the Mexican Garden which includes different species of catus and succulents.
How to get there:
You can access the park from Avenida Patria. It is just west of the intersection with Avenida Américas, very close to the Zapopan main church. The streest surrounding the park are: Av. Patria, Alberta, El Chaco, and Nueva Escocia street.
Access:
There are two entrances, one on Calle Chaco and the other on Avenida Patria.
Size: 92 hectares, 230 acres (a typical block is about 1 hectare= 100 meters x 100 m)
Hours: Monday to Friday 6:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Saturdays and Sundays 6:00 a.m. a 7:00 p.m.
