Jennifer Lopez in Mexico to film movie about killings of women in border city
Singer-actress Jennifer Lopez is in the Mexican border city of Nogales filming a movie about the largely unsolved killings of women in Ciudad Juarez.
Traffic backed up around the set and hundreds of people crowded the streets of Nogales, across from Nogales, Arizona, to get a glimpse of Lopez, who was accompanied by her husband, singer-actor Marc Anthony, local newspapers reported Tuesday.
In “Bordertown,” co-written and directed by Gregory Nava, Lopez plays a Chicago-based reporter sent to Mexico to investigate the killings.
Dressed in a blue shirt, khaki pants and a blonde wig, Lopez chased a bus and attended a street protest in the first two scenes filmed in Nogales on Monday. After each scene, the crowd of onlookers broke into applause, newspapers reported.
The film, which also includes Antonio Banderas, began production in New Mexico in July.
Filming in Nogales, where a crew has already built a shantytown resembling Anapra, a Juarez neighborhood where many of the victims lived, will last at least a week and the production will then move to Mexicali, on the California border, according to newspaper reports.

Gibson to leave film sets in Mexico
Actor/director Mel Gibson is leaving the sets from "Apocalypto" in Veracruz, Mexico, when he's done filming.
Gibson will donate six replicas of Mayan pyramids and several movie-set villages, the BBC reported Friday.
Gibson began shooting Nov. 14 and says filming should be complete in late March or early April.
"Apocalypto" takes place 3,000 years ago in Central America and all the dialogue is in an obscure Mayan dialect.
Gibson has said the film will tell the life of a Mayan man, touching on "civilizations and what undermines them".

Actor Mel Gibson, sporting a long beard and no socks, met with Mexican President Vicente Fox on Wednesday and donated US$1 million to help Mexico recover from Hurricane Stan.

Lionsgate acquires Spanish film rights from Mexico's Mach 8
Lionsgate is beefing up its position in the Latino market, acquiring the North American home video and video-on-demand distribution rights to films from Mexican production house Mach 8.
Financial terms were not disclosed.
