Chevron Invests in New Deepwater Gulf of Mexico Project
Chevron Corporation (NYSE: CVX) today announced that it is proceeding with the development of the
Blind Faith Field in the deepwater Gulf of Mexico. The field will be developed using a semisubmersible production facility, with first production expected during the first half of 2008. Chevron is the operator and holds a 62.5 percent working interest.
Blind Faith is located in approximately 7,000 feet of water, about 160 miles southeast of New Orleans, on Mississippi Canyon blocks 695 and 696. The discovery well was drilled in June 2001 and encountered more than 200 feet of net pay in Miocene sands at depths of 20,900 feet to 24,300 feet. A successful appraisal well was drilled in 2004. The field has an estimated gross resource potential exceeding 100 million barrels of oil-equivalent.
“The project demonstrates our strong commitment to continue to invest in the Gulf of Mexico to develop new energy supplies, as well as our ability to advance significant capital projects in areas where we are well sitioned for future growth,” said George Kirkland, Chevron Corporation’s executive vice president, Upstream and Gas.

Anadarko Petroleum Corporation (NYSE:APC) today announced its successful participation in another new deepwater oil discovery, at the Big Foot prospect in Walker Ridge block 29, about 225 miles south of New Orleans. Anadarko holds a 15 percent working interest in the block.

Chevron evacuating Gulf of Mexico workers before Rita
Chevron Corp. said Monday it is evacuating oil rig workers in the Gulf of Mexico before Tropical Storm Rita hits, a move which could reduce oil production in the region.
based Chevron (NYSE:CVX) told Reuters that its evacuations were a normal procedure, similar to what it did before Hurricane Katrina blew through the Gulf.
Chevron didn't say how the evacuation will affect its oil or natural gas production.
Tropical Storm Rita was heading toward the Florida Keys and several weather models projected it would enter the Gulf and become a category one hurricane.

BP, Shell say Gulf of Mexico ops still suspended
BP PLC and the Royal Dutch Shell said their operations at the Gulf of Mexico remained suspended even as initial inspection showed the offshore facilities sustained little damage from Hurricane Rita.
'The (US Gulf) facilities as of Monday are still completely shut. The situation is still the same,' said a BP spokeswoman.
BP continues to check the facilities and will not allow operations to resume until it is completely certain that it is safe to do so.

Shell Swaps Stake in Gulf of Mexico Field
THE HAGUE, Netherlands (AP) - Royal Dutch Shell PLC said Thursday it will swap its 17 percent stake in the Gulf of Mexico's Tahiti field for Total SA's interests in natural gas assets in South Texas.
The Tahiti field, nearly 190 miles southwest of New Orleans, is operated by Chevron Corp. Total said first production is planned for mid-2008 from a floating production facility with daily capacity of 125,000 barrels of oil and 70 million cubic feet of natural gas.

BHP strikes oil in the Gulf of Mexico
BHP Billiton's oil and gas division has broken its run of bad news by coming up with a big oil discovery in the Gulf of Mexico, with the drilling of the Knotty Head exploration well in deep waters off New Orleans.
The well encountered more than 500 feet of net oil pay, prompting speculation that it could rank as a 500 million barrel-plus discovery for BHP (25 per cent) and the other 25 per cent partners — Chevron, Anadarko and Canada's Nexen.

Mexico pig manure project enters Kyoto pollution scheme
A scheme to cut greenhouse gas emissions from pig manure has become Mexico's first project to win approval under the Kyoto Protocol rules on investing in poor countries, the project's developer said on Tuesday.
The scheme, which covers 23 farms, has gained United Nations registration under Kyoto's Clean Development Mechanism (CDM), said Ireland-based AgCert International in a statement.
"We are delighted to be the first company to have a CDM project registered in Mexico and we will now be moving toward certification as soon as possible," said AgCert's chief executive officer Bill Haskell.
