ATP Awarded Two Gulf of Mexico Lease Blocks
ATP Oil & Gas Corporation
(Nasdaq: ATPG) today reported that it was awarded two of the three blocks for
which it was the apparent high bidder at the Western Gulf of Mexico Offshore
Lease Sale held in New Orleans this past August. ATP is the operator and has
a 100% working interest in the blocks, Garden Banks 228 and High Island A-391,
which were awarded at a total cost of approximately $0.6 million dollars.
Garden Banks Block 228 is located in approximately 745 feet of water and
has one well that was drilled to 16,897′ TVD in 2003, and it logged apparent
gas pay. High Island Block A-391 is located in approximately 214 feet of
water. It has one well that was drilled to 10,995′ TVD in 1977, and is the
planned drill site for ATP’s High Island Block A-392 development.

A bipartisan group of powerful senators on Tuesday proposed opening up a large chunk of the Eastern Gulf of Mexico to energy production that would come to within 100 miles of Florida's shores Sen. Chevron Corporation (NYSE: CVX) today announced that it is proceeding with the development of the

GE Unit Wins Contract From Mexico Utility
GE Energy said Thursday it was awarded a contract by Mexico's state-owned electric utility to expand output capacity at the country's only nuclear power plant.
In a news release, the unit of General Electric Co. said the contract from the Federal Electricity Commission, or CFE, is to initially provide safety and licensing evaluations for plans to increase output by 20 percent at the Laguna Verde plant in the Gulf coast state of Veracruz.

GE Energy's Nuclear Business Wins Contract to Boost Mexico Nuclear Plant's Output
GE Energy's nuclear business has been awarded a contract to support the next phase of a Mexico utility's preparations for an extended power uprate (EPU) at the Laguna Verde Nuclear Power Plant in Mexico.
Originally designed by GE, each of Laguna Verde's two boiling water reactors (BWRs) has an output of 695 megawatts. The plant is located in the state of Veracruz, 70 kilometers northwest of the city of Veracruz and 60 kilometers northwest of the city of Jalapa, the state capital, along the Gulf Coast.

Oil Production Down 78 Percent in Gulf of Mexico
The U.S. government says oil production in the Gulf of Mexico was nearly 80 percent below normal as of Saturday, five days after Hurricane Katrina tore through the region.
A report from the U.S. Minerals Management Service said Katrina had cut oil production in the Gulf by about 1.18 million barrels of oil per day. It said more than 280 offshore oil-drilling rigs and platforms remained evacuated.
The figures represent a slight improvement from Friday, when oil production in the Gulf was nearly 90 percent below normal.

Shell, BP evacuate Gulf of Mexico workers due to Hurricane Katrina
Royal Dutch Shell PLC and BP PLC have evacuated workers from their platforms in the Gulf of Mexico as Hurricane Katrina heads towards the area.
Shell, in a statement, said it will evacuate around 120 non-essential staff from the eastern part of its Gulf operations as a 'precaution'.
A BP spokesman said it will also evacuate a still undetermined number of workers.
Both companies said the move will not affect their Gulf production.
