Grupo Mexico (GMEXICOB MM): Copper prices yesterday had the biggest two-day drop in eight weeks in New York after a report showed a decline in consumption in China, the world’s biggest user of the metal. Shares of Mexico’s largest copper producer fell 41 centavos, or 2 percent, to 19.82 pesos.
Cintra SA (CINTRAA MM): Mexico’s state-owned company that controls the country’s two biggest airlines said yesterday that cost cuts will help cushion an increase in fuel costs of 2 billion pesos ($183 million) from a year earlier. Cintra will save $100 million a year without counting fuel and labor costs by making routes more efficient, lowering insurance rates and improving computer systems, Chairman Andres Conesa said in a radio interview. Shares rose 11 centavos, or 1.7 percent, to 6.85 pesos.
Brazil
Cia. Vale do Rio Doce (VALE5 BS): Rio de Janeiro-based company, which accounts for about a third of world iron-ore exports, remains interested in buying Vancouver-based Canico Resource Corp. and has no plans to raise its C$725 million ($619 million) offer for the company, Chief Executive Roger Agnelli told reporters yesterday. The stock fell 3.5 reais, or 4.4 percent, to close at 78.91 reais yesterday.
