India, Mexico sign five agreements

The India-Mexico Joint Commission, which met on Friday after nine years, produced five agreements in foreign service training, culture, scientific cooperation, education and diplomatic and official visa exemptions.

Talking to this correspondent after the meeting here, Mexican Deputy Foreign Minister Lourdes Aranda Bezaury, who headed an 18-member delegation, said she also had an exchange of views with Minister of State for External Affairs Rao Inderjit Singh.

Need to work closely

Ms. Bezaury said there was need for the two countries to work closely on a wide range of issues given their size and power.

Already, they were coordinating positions on World Trade Organisation matters through the G-20 grouping.

Mexico, as part of the Uniting for Consensus grouping in the United Nations, is opposed to the expansion of the Security Council but maintains that it is a principled position and has nothing to do with India, which seeks permanent membership in the body.
