4 arrested in Mexico on child selling charges
Four people - including a U.S. citizen and a legal American permanent resident - have been arrested in this border city and charged with child selling after a couple offered $5,000 to a father in exchange for his 3-year-old son, police said Saturday.
Jose Luis Garcia told authorities he was walking with his son on Octava street in Tijuana on Friday when he was approached by a couple who said they wanted to purchase the youngster, who would then be sent to the United States by a couple who ran a child-selling ring, according to Tijuana police commander Genaro Carrillo.
Garcia flagged down a police cruiser and two municipal officers arrested the pair who allegedly had offered to purchase the child.
The suspects named a U.S. couple, who was captured in Tijuana, a few blocks away from the site of the attempted sale, Carrillo said.

Arizona Fugitive Detained in Mexico
Mexican authorities have detained and begun deportation proceedings against an Arizona man formerly on the FBI's Ten Most Wanted list, a U.S. official said Thursday.
Gary Edward Lasher, 28, was arrested Wednesday in the Caribbean resort city Playa del Carmen, said the official, who was not authorized to speak on the record.
Lasher is wanted in Oxnard, Calif., for allegedly beating his mother-in-law unconscious and placing her in his car trunk before she was able to escape. He has been charged with kidnapping, kidnapping for ransom, and false imprisonment with violence in a California state arrest
Man Who Ran To Mexico With L.I. Teen Pleads Guilty To Sex Charges
A convicted sex offender who ran off to Mexico with a 16-year-old Long Island girl has pleaded guilty to third-degree rape and sodomy.
Lester Joy, 25, of Morristown, N.J., said he met the girl on the Internet and went to her house in Hampton Bays on Jan. 31, 2005.
He said he and the girl climbed out of the window and fled to Mexico.
The case was first reported as a missing teenager case, but the girl called home from Mexico two weeks later and said she wanted to come
Mother Captured With Young Son 3 Years After Fleeing Country
New Braunfels police ended a nearly three-year search Saturday when they arrested a mother who fled the country with her child.
Suzanne Dewalt, 42, is being held at the Comal County Jail, while her son, Jeremy, 7, has been reunited with his father, Michael.
"I suppose somebody there tipped them off," said Suzanne's mother Margaret Kearns. "I don't know, but it was our worst nightmare."
On Oct. 25, 2002 Dewalt fled with Jeremy after a jury awarded custody of the boy to his father.

Accused Police Impersonator Arrested In Mexico
A San Antonio man who fled to Mexico after being convicted and sentenced on money laundering and wire fraud charges was arrested last week.
The Texas Attorney General's office said that Raymond D. Abreu Jr., 35, was arrested in Laredo on Sept. 21. after undercover officers lured Abreu to Nuevo Laredo, Mexico, where he was told that $57,000 in extortion money was waiting for him.
Abreu fled the country four years ago after being sentenced to 33 months in federal prison for impersonating a San Antonio police officer and demanded bribes from operators of illegal eight-liner games.

A 44-year-old man who flew to Mexico with a 14-year-old family friend pleaded guilty Thursday to sexually assaulting the girl.
Under a plea agreement, Daniel Elliott, of West Deptford, faces a six-year prison term. In the deal, prosecutors agreed to drop charges of endangering the welfare of a child and criminal sexual contact. If he had been convicted on all counts, he could have faced more than 26 years in prison.

Police on Thursday arrested Carlos Solana Macias, a former police director in the northern state of Nuevo Leon, for the 1975 kidnapping of leftist rebel Jesus Piedra Ibarra, who was never seen again.

91 Illegal Immigrants Arrested in Mexico
Mexican authorities had arrested 91 illegal immigrants including 13 children, the government said on Sunday.
The National Immigration Service said it had arrested 13 children from El Salvador and Honduras in the northern Mexican city of Saltillo.
They were separately found in a freight train wagon and at the citys bus station. The children, who were between two and 12 years old, were traveling in small family groups.

A real estate broker who fled after being indicted on charges related to a bribery scandal at the state Office of General Services was captured in Mexico this week.
The arrest of Richard B. Sawyer, 55, a former Clifton Park resident, caps a federal investigation that focused on the role of political contributions in the awarding of state contracts.
Sawyer was arrested Thursday in Cabo San Lucas. He will be flown back to Albany to face charges in the case, authorities said.

Mazda Motor Corp plans to enter the Mexican market in October, selling cars assembled in Japan and the US, Jiji Press reported without citing sources.
