TNA News: iMPACT!, Japan/Mexico Stars, Sting, More News
The first iMPACT! taping of the new year will take place on January 3rd, 2006.
As noted here before, there are plans to bring in international talent from Japan and Mexico. PWI also reports that there are plans for TNA to take the independent bookings of their talents in house in 2006.
TNA will continue to air video packages of their stars on episodes of iMPACT!. There are already videos in the works for Samoa Joe, AJ Styles, Monty Brown and Ron Killings. This is obviously a great move by TNA as they can get their stars over more with their fans.
TNA is hoping Sting’s name/star power will draw media attention.

Will Mexicos landscape change since stars have left
From the moment Pachuca hoisted the Clausura 2006 trophy last spring to the start of the Apertura 06 on Saturday, the Mexican league has gone through some unprecedented changes.
The top clubs are still around, but several of the best Mexican players migrated to Europe in ways never seen before. The top two defenders in the Mexican league are gone. The most popular forward in the country will now ply his trade abroad. A respected veteran midfielder will test his skills in the Old World.

Mexico's America Movil Confirms Purchase Of Smartcom
Mexican wireless phone company America Movil SA (AMX) confirmed the acquisition of Chilean mobile company Smartcom from Spain's Endesa SA (ELE), but gave the purchase price as $472 million.
Earlier Wednesday, Endesa announced the deal in a regulatory filing, saying that it had received EUR414 million, or $505 million, for the sale of the unit.
America Movil spokesman Gonzalo Garcia said he didn't know why there was a discrepancy in the figures, but that the $472 million represented the enterprise value of the Chilean company, and that the transaction involved 100% of the
Lopez joins Hollywood trail to Mexico's murder town
The plight of more than 400 women murdered in a Mexican city in the last 12 years is to get the Hollywood treatment in a new movie starring Jennifer Lopez.
Lopez and co-stars Antonio Banderas and Martin Sheen are currently filming in the Mexican border town of Nogales, where a set resembling the streets of Ciudad Juarez, where the murders took place, has been erected.
In Bordertown, Lopez plays a Chicago-based reporter whose crusading investigations in Juarez, just across the border from Texas, awaken her sense of identity as a Latin woman. Banderas plays a
Hurricane Wilma Approaches Landfall in Mexico
A slow-moving and unpredictable Hurricane Wilma began pounding Mexico this morning with winds of 145 miles an hour (233 kilometers an hour).
"As it stands now, there will be a significant impact from this system over the northeastern coast of the Yucatán Peninsula," said Dave Roberts, a U.S. Navy forecaster at the National Hurricane Center in Miami.
Keith Blackwell, hurricane researcher at the University of South Alabama's Coastal Weather Research Center, said the storm will stall over the peninsula for a day or more.
That stalling will cause massive damage and allow the storm to
Last Sunday's rally was front-page news
Photos of demonstrators marching through the streets of major U.S. cities as the U.S. Congress considers legalizing the status of millions of undocumented Mexicans have filled the pages of Mexicos news publications in recent weeks.
In cities like Tijuana, where many residents have close and frequent contact with communities in the United States, the topic has received top coverage in papers such as Tijuana-based Frontera, where last Sundays demonstrations in San Diego got front-page treatment.
This is a very important issue for our readers, said Ariel Montoya, who oversees the daily publications news department. Lots
County drug squad helps bust Mexico-Atlanta drug group
Undercover Fayette County drug agents played a role in a months-long investigation of a Mexican drug trafficking operation that netted 28 arrests Wednesday, authorities said.
The multi-state investigation also netted about 592 kilograms of cocaine, more than 40 pounds of methamphetamine and $8 million in cash, officials said. Multiple weapons and more than $1 million in cash was recovered in the metro Atlanta area alone.
The sting, called “Operation Long Whine,†also resulted in about two pounds of crystal methamphetamine — often referred to as “ice†— and the lab which was used
Oil leaps as Wilma menaces Gulf of Mexico
Oil leapt more than $1 yesterday as another tropical storm gathered strength in the Caribbean, menacing US rigs and refineries already rocked by the most active hurricane season in decades.
Tropical Storm Wilma, the 21st named storm this year, could move into the oil-rich Gulf of Mexico by the end of the week, the US National Hurricane Centre said yesterday.
Rising tension in Iran, the world’s fourth-biggest oil producer, also buoyed prices after twin bombings in the southwest oil city of Ahvaz. Tehran blamed the blasts on Britain.

Mexico 2, United States 1
Roger Clemens bid goodbye to baseball in uncharacteristic fashion - with a loss.
Oliver Perez and seven relievers combined to pitch a three-hitter, leading Mexico to a 2-1 victory over the Rocket and Team USA on Thursday night, eliminating the Americans from the inaugural World Baseball Classic and putting Japan in the semifinals.
Clemens pitched reasonably well, but received little offensive support as a lineup loaded with All-Stars failed to get the job done. He has said he would retire when the Classic was over. The 43-year-old right-hander did nothing to discourage that notion after facing Mexico.

Mexico's prophet picks home team
Mexico's self-proclaimed "Grand Warlock" predicts host Germany will win soccer's World Cup this summer, avenging its loss four years ago to Brazil in the final.
This isn't necessarily good news for the Germans, The Associated Press notes.
Antonio Vazquez has been making annual predictions since 1980 based on tarot card readings and his scrutiny of the stars, forecasting events ranging from Mexican elections to turns in the love lives of local pop divas.
His readings get wide coverage in the local media, but his results have been spotty and he has become famous in recent years for
