Gay kiss in pool causes stir in Mexico
A gay kiss in a swimming pool, which two men say got them thrown out of a luxury hotel, has caused a stir in traditionally macho Mexico, where open displays of homosexuality are frowned upon.
Gerardo Eliud and his partner, Samir Habdu, told police in Los Cabos, a plush beach resort city popular with U.S. tourists, that security guards beat them up and threw them into the street with their luggage after spotting them kissing in the hotel pool in December.
But when leftist deputies demanded an investigation into the incident in Congress this week, they were angrily shouted down by legislators from other parties who argued the subject was unfit for discussion in the chamber.
The ruckus highlights the discomfort about homosexuality in this predominantly Catholic country, despite recent openness toward gays in some areas.
“It is a question of profound conservatism, intolerance and backwardness,” Party of the Democratic Revolution deputy Inti Munoz said of the deputies’ reaction.

Perry causes a stir calling Calderon Mexicos president-elect
AUSTIN Texas Governor Rick Perry made a stir at the Border Governors Conference today, calling Felipe Calderon the president-elect of Mexico and saying he had spoke with him earlier.
The conservative candidate holds a narrow lead in Mexicos still-disputed presidential race. Official tallies of the July second elections show him ahead by less than 1 percent. His opponent, leftist Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador, has claimed fraud and rallied street protests in the capital.
The election is now in the hands of the Federal Electoral Tribunal, which has until September 6th to declare a president-elect

Valley-Dynamo to move manufacturing to Mexico, cut 90 jobs
Valley-Dynamo, a division of Brunswick Corp. (BC.N: Quote, Profile, Research) on Tuesday said it expects to reduce its workforce by 90 positions as it moves its manufacturing operations to Reynosa, Mexico from Richland Hills, Texas.
The company will relocate to a new headquarters and distribution warehouse in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, the pool, air hockey and foosball tables maker said in a statement.

Mexican industrial production rose 2.1 percent in August compared to the same month a year ago, heralding a mild recovery in the dull manufacturing sector which has been dragging the overall economy down.
The median of analysts' forecasts in a Reuters poll had predicted a rise of 2.4 percent in industrial output.
The government said on Wednesday industrial activity in the month grew 0.44 percent compared to July while key manufacturing output increased 2.3 percent in August from a year earlier.
