Roxanne Villa, 17, calmly strummed the strings of her acoustic guitar while waiting to take mainstage Saturday at Columbia Park in Kennewick.
Villa was one of seven Wenatchee High School students participating in the first Mariachi Festival.
Usually Villas group, Mariachi Huenachi, has 20 members dressed in mulberry performing the lively Mexican music. But even with a whittled down band, the group earned second prize.
Mariachi Huenachi and 10 others from Eastern Washington played in front of a crowd of thousands during the festival organized by the Tri-Cities Hispanic Chamber of Commerce in honor of Cinco de Mayo.
