DaimlerChrysler upgrades Mexico plant
DaimlerChrysler AG said Wednesday its Toluca facility will have the capability to build more than one model on its assembly line as part of the automaker's $1 billion investment in its Mexican operations.
In addition to enhancing the Toluca plant, which currently builds the Chrysler PT Cruiser, the funds will help create two supplier parks and further operational improvements, the company said.
The supplier parks, to be built near the Toluca facility, will be jointly funded and will make head liners, cockpits, front-end modules and front and rear suspensions.
The bulk of the investment will take place in

Columbus, OH (Sports Network) - Mexico heads into its rivalry match Saturday against the United States at Columbus Crew Stadium without the services of captain Pavel Pardo due to suspension.
Pardo is suspended due to an accumulation of cards during World Cup qualifying. Mexico will now have to attempt to qualify for the finals next summer in Germany without the influential CF America midfielder.
"It's the game that I wanted to play in the most because it is important because of what it means and because I wanted to beat the United States," Pardo told Terra.com earlier in the week.
Professor predicts Calderon will win in Mexico
I arrived in Toluca Friday morning to cloudy skies and 45-degree weather. This city is the polar opposite of Acapulco, where I left last night with 77 degrees at midnight.
Last week, when I would ask an Acapulqueño who would win Sundays election, the quick response was AMLO (Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador), but they might try to steal the votes.
Today, I am asking the same question to Toluqueños. One taxi drivers answer has been typical. He paused, trying to consider the possible scenarios (or maybe trying to size up my bias) and then
FIFA: Mexico Gallego shows the Midas touch
To the casual observer, it sometimes appears that footballers go to absurd lengths to give their team an all-important edge. The wearing of lucky underwear, taking a statuette of the Virgin Mary to the ground, always stepping onto the pitch with a certain foot first; all of these and more are perfectly acceptable in the hothouse atmosphere that is the beautiful game.
However, recent years have seen an even more powerful lucky charm emerge for those teams seeking silverware: Argentine-born tactician Americo Gallego, the man who has won titles with every team he has
Soccer-Ten-man Chiapas end America's unbeaten run in Mexico
Unfashionable Chiapas ended America's 28-match unbeaten domestic run at the weekend, overcoming the defending champions 4-3 despite playing with ten men for nearly an hour.
In other games, UNAM coach Hugo Sanchez saw his team beaten 3-0 at home by Toluca, while Guadalajara continued their poor run by losing 3-2 at home to Monterrey.
America appeared set to extend their run when Brazilian Kleber Pereira gave them a third minute lead in Tuxtla Gutierrez.
However, the Jaguars had other ideas as Paraguayan forward Salvador Cabanas equalised from the penalty spot in the 26th minute.

As a mother and her children are laid to rest, family members brace themselves for the ordeal ahead
On an overcast day in a Mexican cemetery more than 2,000 miles from northeast Indiana, one chapter of a family’s anguish came to a peaceful end with the funeral of Ana Lilia Casas-Rios, 28, and her three children.
All were killed Dec. 13 in Fort Wayne.
Two hearses, one carrying a white coffin holding Ana and her baby, Thannya Carolina, another with the casket containing Liliana Karen and Catherine Guadalupe, snaked through the cemetery, the snowcapped Nevado de Toluca volcano in
Mexico's best is still in action, just not in the playoffs
Turns out the best team in Mexico won't get the chance to prove it against its peers. With the playoffs lacking the big-name clubs, Pumas UNAM have all but stolen the spotlight from their fellow, weaker Mexican comrades.
Right now, there is no better Mexican club than Pumas, who are battling Argentine giants Boca Juniors for the Copa Sudamericana title. Despite a ghastly league season that cost former coach Hugo Sánchez his job, Pumas have come together at the right time and are making the right amount of noise necessary for
