MEXICO CITY – An Aviacsa flight from Las Vegas to Mexico’s capital was diverted to the Pacific Coast city of Acapulco where it made an emergency landing, authorities said Friday. No one was injured.
One of the tires on the landing gear of the Boeing 727 exploded while Flight 893 was heading to Mexico City late Thursday, according to a statement released by Aviacsa.
The pilot continued into airspace over the capital’s Benito Juarez International Airport, but, fearing that heavy rains in the area would leave runways too slick to use with a punctured tire, authorities sent the flight to Acapulco, 180 miles (290 kilometers) south.
Under clear skies in Acapulco, officials covered a runway with foam and had emergency crews standing by, but the flight landed without incident.

Since it took off in July, Click Mexicana has won over passengers with its discount fares, but some travelers said the service has had its rough spots.

Small plane crash in Mexico kills pilot, air force co-pilot
A small plane crashed outside the Pacific coast resort of Acapulco, killing a civilian pilot and a Mexican Air Force pilot who went along for the ride, authorities and relatives confirmed.
The plane went down Sunday afternoon at El Migote beach near Pie de la Cuesta, just south of Acapulco, killing pilot Ruben Fajardo and Air Force pilot Victor Serrano, said Hector Lara, an agent of the district attorney's office for the nearby city of Coyuca de Benitez.
