Palo Verde Generators start crawl from Mexico
PHOENIX Drivers are advised to avoid a king-size caravan carrying nuclear-plant equipment through southern Arizona this week.
Two gigantic flatbed trucks are each carrying an 806-ton steam generator. They’re already headed north through Mexico from Puerto Peqasco (pee-KAHS-co), where they were delivered by barge. At a snail’s pace, the convoy will travel along Arizona 85 from Lukeville to Gila Bend, then on local roads west of 85 heading north toward the plant.
The convoy is expected to reach the border as early as today, but will take another two weeks to reach Palo Verde near Tonopah (tone-AH’-pah).D-P-S officers will be on the scene far ahead and behind the caravan to advise motorists to detour the area.

Friedrichshafen, Germany - Veteran Iran striker Ali Daei will start his sides opening World Cup match against Mexico in Nuremburg on June 11, coach Branko Ivankovic said on Monday.

GE Unit Wins Contract From Mexico Utility
GE Energy said Thursday it was awarded a contract by Mexico's state-owned electric utility to expand output capacity at the country's only nuclear power plant.
In a news release, the unit of General Electric Co. said the contract from the Federal Electricity Commission, or CFE, is to initially provide safety and licensing evaluations for plans to increase output by 20 percent at the Laguna Verde plant in the Gulf coast state of Veracruz.

Tropical storm Stan hits Mexico
Tropical storm Stan washed over the Mexican Yucatan peninsula Sunday with winds of 45 mph as another tropical depression developed over the Atlantic Ocean.
At 8 a.m. EDT, the center of Stan was 75 miles south-southwest of Cozumel, moving west-northwest at 6 mph, the U.S. National Hurricane Center in Miami reported. Rainfall ranging from 5 to 10 inches was predicted.
The system was expected to weaken to a tropical depression while over land, but could "re-strengthen to a tropical storm after emerging over the southwestern Gulf of Mexico early Monday," forecasters said.

Mexico's Zapatista rebels were to launch a six-month nationwide campaign tour on Sunday aimed at attracting more support from citizens.
The Zapatistas, who were emerging from their jungle hideouts, said they would carry out the tour in a peaceful way by rejecting rifles or wars.

Hurricane Emily started lashing the beaches of Mexico's Yucatan peninsula late Sunday.
The Category 4 storm blew down signs and trees, leaving Isla Mujeres and parts of the island of Cozumel and Cancun without electricity.
Emily's eye would pass over Cozumel early Monday, authorities predicted.
The hurricane did slightly weaken as it approached Mexico, with speeds dropping from 235 kilometres per hour to 220 km/h.

Mazda Motor Corp plans to enter the Mexican market in October, selling cars assembled in Japan and the US, Jiji Press reported without citing sources.

More than 100,000 protected Olive Ridley sea turtles have lumbered onto a Mexican beach in recent days to lay some 10 million eggs, just weeks after poachers massacred spawning turtles on the same stretch of sand.
