Known for its Planetarium, Alfa’s cultural center encompasses a museum of science, art and technology. The planetarium is equipped with a state of the art Omnimax system with an 85% surround capability on its 24 square meter screen. The museum itself is made up of five levels which hold permanent exhibits with different themes, including the company’s history and mexican prehistoric art. It is one of Monterrey’s most powerful industrial conglomerates, Grupo Alfa, is architect and sponsor of the Centro Cultural Alfa. The center is open to the public and sponsors various summer camps for children.

Designed by architects Fernando Garza Trevino, Samuel Weisfberger and Efrain Aleman Cuello, construction finished in 1978.

The Universe Pavillion houses a (vitral) of Rufino Tamayo, where the artist displays his idea of the cosmos, in a metallic composition. The cultural center also contains an aviary with over 200 birds of 15 different species.

Built later than the Government Palace, this functioned as the headquarters of the Federal Executive power. This construction dates back to 1928, and thanks to its original style of straight lines, intense white color, and abundant large windows, it contrasts strongly with the pink stone of the Explanada de los Heroes and with the modern constructions around it. It is also known as the Edificio de Correos (Post Office Building). It was the object of important refurbishment in 1963 and today it looks practically the same as when it was built.

Walk trought the streets of the Barrio Antiguo (Old District), find the northern arquitecture, combination of colors and old window bars. This is a place full of art gallerys, bars, night clubs, coffe shop store and more. The center of nightlife in Monterrey is definitely Barrio Antiguo, but there is plenty of action spread out over the rest of the city. Theatre, concerts with big name entertainers, discos, small coffee houses, Norteña music shows, salsa clubs, jazz and piano bars, extravagant rodeo shows all combine to provide a selection that should satisfy everybody. Many of the restaurants in Monterrey feature live music, mariachi bands or other entertainment. Nightlife in Monterrey seems to wind down a bit earlier than most Mexican cities, as many of the clubs shut down around 2 to 3 AM.

Our Lady of Guadalupe is the title given to the Virgin Mary after appearing, according to legend, to Saint Juan Diego Cuauhtlatoatzin, an Aztec convert to Catholicism, in the village of Guadalupe (the present-day Gustavo A. Madero, D.F.) near Mexico City in 1531.

Less famously, the same name also refers to a statue of Mary that dating from 1326, found in the city of Guadalupe in Spain.

This historic library features an art gallery displaying the work of local artists and students. This library is part of the Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León. In its facilities, besides finding an ample variety of books, magazines and documents, every day pictures and sculptures of local artists are exhibited. Sometimes you can also admire photography and architecture exhibits. The objective of this space, besides bringing culture and art to young people, is to provide a space to showcase works of art by students. The Huasteca Canyon has many well-maintained trails, and its spectacular peaks attract climbing enthusiasts from all over the world. Some of the best climbs are: Peak 15, Tepeyac Edge, Devil’s Tower, Foxes Edge, Independence Peak, Cat’s Wall, South and East Pyrenees, and Aconcagua Rock. The area around Monterrey is where the real action is for eco-tourism enthusiasts. If you rent a car you can try rock climbing at nearby Canon de Huasteca, the Parque Ecologico Chipinque or the Canon de Potrero Chico. Chipinque also offers trekking, biking and horseback riding, all in this beautiful mountain highland.

This place os ideal to pass the day with the family or the friends. Their formation rocky is lent to practice rapel and climbed. The Tube of the Huasteca comprises, like Chipinque, of the National Park Summits of Monterrey occupying an extension of 200 hectares. In their walls prehistoric glifos carved thousands of years by the old inhabitants of the region can be observed back. Situated in the Macroplaza are, the Capilla de los Dulces Nombres offers a beautiful garden and fountains for the visitors. Macroplaza is a hotel area, and many attractions in the city are located near it. Capilla de los Dulces Nombres plazas covers an area of 40 hectares of esplanades, fountains and gardens, around which the main public and historic buildings of the city are located. This plaza is one of the largest plazas in the world. Its second level underground has restaurants and brand name shops. Some of the buildings which surround this place are the Government Palace, the Metropolitan Cathedral, the Capilla de los Dulces Nombres (Chapel of the Sweet Names), the Faro de Comercio (The Commerce Beacon), the City Theatre and Monterrey Casino.
